Q.1. What is Community College ?


Community College is an Alternative system of education which aims to empower individuals through appropriate skill Development Leading to gainful Employment in Collaboration with the local Industry and Community. It serves all segments of society through an open access Admissions Policy that offers equal and fair treatment to all Students. In which, Teaching is mainly focused on skill development.


Q.2. What is the Philosophy of Community College ?

Institutions which are run for the Community, by the Community, and of the Community offering Opportunities to all sections of Society. It encourages the students who may want to attend a Regular Degree but are not academically; personally or economically ready to begin study in the Regular System. In Community College, student can work and study without the age and Minimum Qualification barriers. It serves as a Community based institution of Higher Education. It provides lifelong learning to have an educated Force.


Q.3. How Community College is differed from Regular colleges like Arts, Science, and Engineering Colleges ?

Regular Colleges Require Minimum Qualification, Age limit and Proper Educational Path like Primary Education, Secondary Education. But
Community College is not required anything. It is the Alternative Education method for the Marginalized and Disadvantaged.
Many School drop outs, those are in working who find entry into the regular college to be rigid, may avail of the Courses of Community Colleges and equip themselves for higher education and Career Development.
Community Colleges offer students to continue education in full time, Part time and on line.


Q.4. What is the History of Community College ?

Community College was started one hundred years ago as Joliet Junior College in United States of America. Now More than 1200 Community Colleges are Available in USA. In Canada, More than 150 Community Colleges are Available. Q.5. What is the International Trend of Community Colleges ?

In USA, students have been admitted in Community Colleges so far is one Crore and Seventeen Lacks (11.7 million).Out of which,Enrolled full time: 40% students and Enrolled part time: 60% students. In Canada, Twenty four lacks Students are studied so far. Out of which, enrolled full time: 35% students and enrolled Part time 65% students.
In USA, 59 % of new nurses and majority of other health care Technicians are coming from Community Colleges.

Nearly 80% of Fire safety Technicians and law enforcement officers are Educated in Community Colleges.

95 % of Business and other organisations provide employment to Community College graduates.

47 % of Community College students receive financial aid from various Sources.



Q.6. Why Community Colleges are needed in India now?
There are various Reasons.

1. India has the biggest youth Population in the World.(More than 50 Crores)
2. Only 5% of Indian Labour force in the age group of 2024 have obtained Vocational Skills. But in western Countries, the percentage is from 60 to 96.
3. Only Twenty Five Lacks Vocational Training Seats are available where as one crore twenty five lacks people enter the Labour market every year.
4. Largest share of New Jobs likely to come from the unorganised Sector which employs up to 93% of the national work force.

Q.8. What is the Eligibility to Join into Community Colleges ?

Those who are attained age of eighteen, without any basic Qualification, can join Community Colleges. Those who finished Eighth Std, can join Certificate Course. Those who finished Tenth Std, can join Diploma Course


Q.9. What is BPP ?

Bachelor’s Preparatory Programme
Bachelor’s Preparatory Programme is offered by the University to those students who generally wish to do Bachelors Degree of Tamil but do not have the essential qualifications of having passed 10+2. The target groups for Community Colleges are students who are 8th Pass or 10th Pass and is not a 10+2 Pass. An 8th pass student is eligible for Certificate Programme and a 10th pass student is eligible for Diploma Programme. But the students at the Community Colleges may aspire to do an Associate Degree Programme as that may lead to a Three Year Degree. Such non 10+2 students can take the benefit of BPP.


Q.10. What is the Educational Path in SRRF Community Colleges ?

TYPE I: EIGHTH STD PASS > CERTIFICATE > DIPLOMA > ASSOCIATE DEGREE
TYPE II: TENTH STD PASS> DIPLOMA > ASSOCIATE DEGREE
TYPE III: TWELTH STD PASS> ASSOCIATE DEGREE


Q.11. What is ASSOCIATE DEGREE ?

It is the Two year Degree given by the Sree Raghavendra Research Foundation & Professional Skill Development Studies in Community Colleges which leads to join third year in Regular Degree. Otherwise it Provides Good employment Opportunity to Students.


Q12. What is the medium of education ?

Any language. But study material will be available only in English. You can convert into your language.
